How to register a new passkey on macOS?

Overview

This article outlines the steps for registering your first Beyond Identity passkey on a macOS device. Passkeys offer strong, phishing-resistant protection against security threats.

To complete the registration process, you’ll need to:

  1. Receive an invitation email from your administrator.

  2. Download and install the Beyond Identity Authenticator for macOS.

  3. Set up your passkey.

Steps

1. Open the invitation email from your IT administrator on your work device.

2. You only need to click View Download Options in Step 1: Get the Authenticator if the Beyond Identity Authenticator has not already been installed on your device by your organization’s IT team.

For Step 2: Register Credential – If the Beyond Identity Authenticator is already installed on your device, click Register New Profile and proceed to Step 5 below.

3. If you need to begin with Step 1, click View Download Options, then click Download to get the macOS Authenticator.

4. After downloading the Authenticator, follow the steps you'll see on the screen:

  1. Open the file downloaded called BeyondIdentityInstaller.dmg
  2. Double-click on the Beyond Identity Installed.app
  3. Return to your instructions and follow Step 2.

After completing the steps, you’ll see a screen that says Installation in progress.

When you see the message Installation Complete, return to the invitation email.

5. Click Register New Profile.

6. The Beyond Identity Authenticator window will open and display Registering passkey on this device.

7. A confirmation banner will appear with the message Your passkey was successfully created, indicating that the setup was completed successfully.
